Federal Government Reopens After Record 43-Day Shutdown
After 43 days of the longest government shutdown in U.S. history, President Donald Trump signed legislation late Wednesday evening to reopen the federal government. Under the bill, full-year funding is secured for three agencies – Agriculture-FDA, Military Construction-VA, and the Legislative Branch – while funding for the rest of the government runs only through January 30, 2026.
Compliance
The Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) issued an interpretive rule clarifying that the Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA) generally preempts state laws governing credit reporting activities. This clarification could simplify compliance for credit unions operating across multiple states by reaffirming the FCRA as the primary standard.
